By or of Marcel Duchamp or Rrose Sélavy
Housed in a new cloth clamshell box, this catalogue documents the survey of Marcel Duchampâs work staged at the Pasadena Art Museum (now the Norton Simon Museum) in California in 1963. The first major retrospective of Duchampâs work, and the largest to date when it opened, the exhibition was one of curator Walter Hoppsâs most significant projects at the museum. Duchamp was closely involved in the exhibition as well, and even designed the publication, which functions as an early catalogue raisonnĂ© of sorts, incorporating a chronology and indexes of the various phases of his massively influential practice, alongside an introduction by Hopps. It was printed by Cunningham Press, which would later print many of Ed Ruschaâs artistâs books.
