Carol Bove: Collage Sculptures

Carol Bove: Collage Sculptures

This book was published on the occasion of Carol Bove: Collage Sculptures at the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, the first major institutional exhibition dedicated to Bove’s steel works. Curated by Catherine Craft, it presented nine sculptures, including two works created specifically for the exhibition. TheseĀ were accompanied by a group of small sculptures that Bove selected from the Nasher’s permanent collection in collaboration with Craft. Since the early 2000s, Bove’s practice has focused on the interdependence of artworks and their contexts.Ā In her large-scale metal sculpture, she embraces the strategies of modernist formalism to explore previously overlooked openings in conventional art historical narratives.Ā

In addition to theĀ Collage Sculptures, this extensive publication illustrates over fifty of Bove’s sculptures from 2015 to 2021. It includes a foreword by Jeremy Strick, an essay by Lisa Le Feuvre, and an introduction and essay by Craft, theĀ last of which examines the influence of size and scale on Bove’s oeuvre and discusses the works from the Nasher’s collection that the artist chose to exhibit alongside her own.
