Crash Poster Box Set
This boxed set of fourteen folded posters was produced in 2010, in conjunction with Crash: Homage to JG Ballard at Gagosian, Britannia Street, London. Taking its title from Ballardâs visionary 1973 novel, the group exhibitionâwhich followed the writerâs death in 2009âpresented works by artists inspired by Ballardâs highly influential dystopian vision, including his contemporaries Richard Hamilton, Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha, and Andy Warhol, as well as younger artists such as Glenn Brown, Tacita Dean, Mike Nelson, and Jenny Saville.
The set includes photographs taken by Ballard of his Ford Zephyr after a car accident in 1973, as well as artwork by Paul Delvaux (Le canapĂ© bleu, 1967), Cyprien Gaillard (View of Sighthill Cemetery, 2008), Douglas Gordon (Self-Portrait of You + Me (Jayne Mansfield), 2007), Damien Hirst (Suicide Bomber (Aftermath), 2004â05), Edward Hopper (Intermission, 1963), Lichtenstein (Explosion II, 1965), Florian Maier-Aichen (Untitled (Freeway Crash), 2002), Adam McEwen (Iâm So Tired, 2007), Eduardo Paolozzi (Zero Energy Experiment Pile (Z.E.E.P.), 1969â70), Richard Prince (Elvis, 2007), Ruscha (Fountain of Crystal, 2009), Saville (Witness, 2009), and Warhol (Green Disaster (Green Disaster Twice), 1963).
The posters in this set were also sold individually unfolded, as were additional posters featuring artwork by Jean-Michel Basquiat (Untitled (Red Man), 1981) and Richard Prince (Crashed, 2006â10), which are not included in this set.
