Cy Twombly: Paradise
This book was published on the occasion of Cy Twombly: Paradise, an exhibition organized in 2014 by Museo Jumex, Mexico City, that traveled to Caâ Pesaro, Galleria Internazionale dâArte Moderna, Venice, in 2015. The first major exhibition of Twomblyâs work in Latin America, it was organized in collaboration with the Twombly Foundation and curated by Julie Sylvester and Philip Larratt-Smith. Surveying six decades of the artistâs career, from 1951 through 2011, Cy Twombly: Paradise included paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
The catalogue illustrates the fifty-six works on view and features full-bleed double-page details of selected works that capture the artistâs brilliant palette and dramatic gestural mark making. In an accompanying essay, âPsychedelic Antiquity,â Larratt-Smith analyzes Twomblyâs oeuvre as revolving around love, art, beauty, and deathâthemes channeled through the artistâs gestural abstraction, wide-ranging allusions, and extraordinary visual intelligence. The publication also includes a foreword by Eugenio LĂłpez Alonso and a preface by Patrick Charpenel.
