Derrick Adams: Sweet Retreat (Sweet Revolution) T-shirt

This T-shirt was produced on the occasion of Derrick Adams: RECESS at Gagosian, Burlington Arcade, London. Embodying the themes of Black joy, play, and leisure that are at the center of Adams’s practice, the presentation included new works and an installation of the artist’s interactive sculptures Funtime Unicorn Spring Riders (2022). Featuring an ice cream truck and frozen treat rendered in the colors of the Pan-African flag, this image of summertime refreshment recalls Cool Down Bench (2023), a large-scale fiberglass sculpture shown in Come as You Are, Adams’s 2023 debut exhibition at Gagosian.
