Ed Ruscha: Bow-Tie Teardrop

Ed Ruscha created Bow-Tie Teardrop in collaboration with Universal Limited Art Editions, New York, in 2003. It is from a series of prints titled Bow-Tie Landscapes.

Printed on heavyweight Somerset velvet paper, it depicts a mirrored image of California’s desert outcroppings overlaid with twin white teardrop motifs, pointing inward. Their silhouetted shapes act as positive images, while the landscape behind forms a curious kind of negative space.
