Edmund de Waal: During the Night
This book was published on the occasion of Edmund de Waal: During the Night at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien in Vienna. The 2016 exhibition, inspired by a drawing of a nightmare by Albrecht DĂŒrer, was the product of three years of research into the museumâs collectionâduring which de Waal studied such remarkable objects as sixteenth-century corals and paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elderâand explored themes of anxiety and the fear of the unknown. It was the second in a series of curated projects at the museum that was initiated with Ed Ruschaâs The Ancients Stole All Our Great Ideas in 2012.
Housed in a paper slipcase, the catalogue comprises a set of color reproductions of objects selected by de Waal on large double-sided cards with extended captions, including comments by de Waal, as well as a booklet with longer texts by Lisa Appignanesi, de Waal, Sabine Haag, and Jasper Sharp.
