Jenny Saville a Ca’ Pesaro

Jenny Saville a Ca’ Pesaro

This book was published on the occasion of Jenny Saville a Ca’ Pesaro at Ca’ Pesaro–Galleria Internazionale d’Arte Moderna, the first major exhibition of the artist’s work in Venice, which coincides with the 61st Biennale di Venezia. Bringing together more than thirty canvases and works on paper from the 1990s to the present, it traces the development of her practice and its roots in the history of painting. Saville’s monumental canvases are presented in dialogue with the past at Ca’ Pesaro, with the exhibition’s final room featuring never-before-seen works created in response to Venice.

The bilingual (English/Italian) catalogue features reproductions of the exhibited works alongside full-bleed details of several paintings and numerous installation photographs. An essay by exhibition curator Elisabetta Barisoni delves into the originality of Saville’s paintings and the depth of her engagement with art historical sources. A conversation between the artist and Stefania Ventra discusses her formative years, her pursuit of emotional truth, and the influence of the old masters on her work. A foreword by Luigi Brugnaro, the mayor of Venice, and acknowledgments by Mariacristina Gribaudi, president of Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, are also included.
