Jenny Saville

This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Jenny Saville at the Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach, Florida, in 2011. Featuring paintings and works on paper that chart Saville’s development from 1992 to 2011, the exhibition was her first museum survey in the United States and the first in the Norton Museum’s Recognition of Art by Women (RAW) exhibition series. It later traveled to Modern Art Oxford, England.

The catalogue illustrates works in the exhibition and includes photographs and images from the artist’s studio. The essay “A Woman Who Paints” by curator Cheryl Brutvan contextualizes Saville’s work in relation to feminism and cultural representations of the female body. In “The Anatomy Lesson,” Nicolas Cullinan discusses art historical touchstones for Saville’s practice. The publication also includes a foreword by Hope Alswang, a chronology, and lists of selected exhibitions, publications, and reviews.
