Jonas Wood: Hong Kong
This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Jonas Wood at Gagosian, Hong Kong. It features ten new paintings and two sets of related drawings. The works continue Woodâs exploration into motifs of fruits, flowers, and houseplants. Depicting brilliantly hued orchids and succulents, full bunches of bananas, and a robust monstera plant, he uses plants as a vehicle to experiment with color and geometry, isolating the forms on monochromatic backgrounds to explore color theory, pattern, and line.
The bilingual (English/Chinese) catalogue also features the architectural model Wood used to plan the installation from his studio in Los Angelesâhe was not able to visit Hong Kong in person due to COVID-related travel restrictionsâas well as a floral wallpaper designed by the artist on the bookâs endpapers.
