Jonas Wood
Part of Phaidonâs Contemporary Artists series, this bookâthe first monograph on the work of Jonas Woodâoffers a comprehensive look at the Los Angelesâbased artistâs output from 2006 through 2019. With subjects that range from landscapes and domestic interiors to sports, houseplants, animals, and family members, Wood has developed a representational style that emphasizes an idiosyncratic approach to pictorial space, pattern, and color.
In addition to over two hundred illustrations, the volume features an essay by Helen Molesworth that surveys Woodâs work, situating it within art history and contemporary life, as well as a text by Ian Alteveer that unpacks some of his references. It also includes an interview between Wood and artist Mark Grotjahn discussing studio practice. Following a dedicated section of photography of the artistâs studio, extracts of three conversationsâbetween Wood and Corrina Peipon (2010), Katy Donoghue (2017), and Jeong Yun Hyeong (2017)âlet the reader hear directly from the artist at different points in his career.
