Masa Designs: Galaxy Yunomi (Teacup)

Designed by legendary chef Masayoshi Takayama, known as Masa, this unique handcrafted stoneware teacup reflects the rustic look of traditional Japanese Bizen ware. It shares the style’s earthy red-brown color and unglazed surface, with markings resulting from the use of a wood-burning kiln, and boasts significant hardness due to its high-temperature firing. Often used in the Japanese tea ceremony, Bizen ware was originally produced in the village of Imbe in Bizen province, and was designated a “traditional Japanese craft” by the Japanese government in 1982.

Following the seven principles of shibusa—simplicity, implicitness, modesty, naturalness, imperfection, everydayness, and silence—the Masa Designs collection is crafted to improve the aesthetics of everyday life. Markings and coloring may vary due to the unique nature of the production and firing processes.
