
Richard Serra: Triptychs and Diptychs, Forged Rounds, Reverse Curve
This book was published on the occasion of three concurrent exhibitions by Richard Serra at Gagosian, New YorkāForged Rounds, Reverse Curve, and Triptychs and Diptychs. Housed in a slipcase, this two-volume set documents the presentation of five new sculptures and more than twenty drawings by the artist.
Four of the sculpturesāall from the artistās Rounds seriesāare each composed of multiple 50-ton forged-steel elements of differing diameters and heights. The fifth sculpture, Reverse Curve (2005/19), measuring 99 feet long and 13 feet high, was originally conceived in 2005 for a public project in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
An essay by Julian Rose provides an in-depth examination of the monolithic nature of Serraās work and its engagement with architecture on its own terms.
