Roy Lichtenstein: Cup and Saucer I Tote Bag
This tote bag featuring Cup and Saucer I (c. 1976) by Roy Lichtenstein was produced in conjunction with Lichtenstein Remembered at Gagosian, 980 Madison Avenue, New York. Presenting sculptures and related studies by Lichtenstein, the exhibition was organized to commemorate the centenary of the artistās birth. Elevating the simple image of a steaming coffee cup, Cup and Saucer Iās form masterfully balances multiple layers of reference: allusions to the reductive palette of Mondrian, the biomorphic forms of Surrealism, the patterning of Art Deco ornamentation, and the graphic shorthand of cartoons.
