The Warp of Time (Helen Marden Cover Edition)

This book was published on the occasion of The Warp of Time at the Old Carpet Factory in Hydra, Greece, an exhibition featuring works by Helen Marden and Dimitrios Antonitsis. Curated by Ekaterina Juskowski, the site-specific presentation explores memory, heritage, and artistic expression in light of a century of shared history at the Old Carpet Factory, a mansion transformed into a carpet-weaving factory by the Soutzoglou family in the early twentieth century. The Warp of Time includes a historical carpet woven on-site, intricate “loom abacus” works by Antonitsis, and carpets by Marden that translate her intuitive watercolors inspired by her memories of Hydra. Produced in collaboration with Art Rug Projects by Soutzoglou, these woven works are Marden’s first experimentation with the medium.

Limited to 250 copies, the double-sided accordion-fold publication—housed in a slipcase printed with a reproduction of Marden’s Summer (2024) and a quotation by the artist—features different sequences of texts and images on each side. The covers reproduce pages of a guest book signed by artists, musicians, and friends of the Old Carpet Factory. Juskowski contributes an essay that considers the works on display, the site’s history, and the nature of memory. In addition, the book includes an essay by Egill Sæbjörnsson, an excerpt by novelist Makis Malafekas, text by Lewis Lazar, and a song by Emma Louise accompanying photo essays by Margherita Chiarva, Bill Georgoussis and François Valenza, and Arturo + Bamboo.
