Jenny Saville: Pietà I

This poster featuring Pietà I (2019–21) was produced in 2021 on the occasion of a multi-venue exhibition that placed Jenny Saville’s work in dialogue with masterworks of the Italian Renaissance across five museums in Florence: Museo Novecento, Museo di Palazzo Vecchio, Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, Museo degli Innocenti, and Museo di Casa Buonarroti.

Over nine feet high, and made in charcoal and pastel on raw canvas, the large drawing pictured was installed in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo adjacent to Michelangelo’s unfinished marble sculpture Pietà (c. 1547–55), offering a revelatory encounter between the contemporary and the historical.
